Sooke, in the province of British Columbia, is an outdoor adventure paradise. Sooke, with a growing population of 8,800, is a short forty minute drive from Victoria. Sooke is located on the south western tip of Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada.

The drive from Victoria is scenic one as you enter the Sooke region which actually encompasses East Sooke and the District of Sooke. These two communities are in fact joined across the Sooke Harbour and Basin. Because Sooke is located in a temperate rainforest, the district has a very mild climate. Dry, warm summers are followed by mild winters with some rain and the occasional snowfall. Typically, the mild climate will not slow down the spirit of adventure.

Sooke, Port Renfrew, Jordan River, Shirley and Otter Point along Highway 14, is commonly referred to as West Coast Road. The area is home to some of the most spectacular and pristine beaches on Vancouver Island. French Beach Provincial Park is a beautiful and scenic sand and pebble beach that faces the Juan de Fuca Strait. China Beach offers more beauty and variety on its shoreline, as well as a waterfall. Whiffen Spit Beach is another must see for a leisurely walk in paradise. The East Sooke Park, Kemp Lake, Gordon's Beach, the Sooke River Flats, the area is an endless adventure.
One more must see is the Sooke Potholes Provincial Park. It is located upriver from the Flats, and is an excellent place for hiking year-round. The potholes, which were formed after thousands of years of erosion, are a popular place to swim on those hot summer days.

The Galloping Goose Trail offers a great place for the walkers and cyclists to enjoy the scenic area. The Galloping Goose Trail was once an old rail line, but now the scenic trail is used strictly for recreation as it now connects the West Shore communities from Victoria to Sooke and past the abandoned mining town of Leechtown. Hiking, whale watching, fishing, golfing and kayaking are a few of the popular activities in the area. The Sooke area also supports a vibrant cultural scene that includes music, drama, arts and crafts and photography. In fact, Sooke plays host to the largest juried art show on Vancouver Island. Something for everyone in a truly awe-inspiring part of the world. Visit Sooke and discover "where the rainforest meets the sea".
