The capital of British Columbia, Victoria, is a small picturesque city located on the southern end of Vancouver Island. The area has a definite British flavour with its double decker buses and many splendid places for afternoon tea. English style pubs and fare also pay homage to the history of the region. Victoria's inner harbour, with the Provincial Legislature and The Empress Hotel as a back drop, is a truly impressive sight.
The downtown core of Victoria has a vibrancy that feeds off the inner
harbour. Wonderful shops, restaurants, bistros, cafes and plenty of patio space to enjoy the delightful year-round weather. Many an hour can be spent marveling at the float plane traffic going in and out of the harbour at a hectic pace.
With the mildest climate in Canada, outdoor art shows and music are always adding to the inner harbour experience. The Royal British Columbia Museum, Pacific Undersea Gardens, The Art Gallery of Greater Victoria and the Maritime Museum are all within walking distance of the inner harbour as well.
A must see when in the Greater Victoria area is the world famous Butchart gardens. It is no wonder that Victoria is called "The Garden City". While out at the Butchart Gardens, pop in and see the always entertaining Victoria Butterfly Gardens. With lots to do and see, great weather, friendly people, it is easy to see why Victoria is such a safe, year-round tourist destination.
