Englishman
River Falls Provincial Park
Adjacent to the pristine Englishman River north of Nanaimo, 97-hectare Englishman River Falls Provincial Park features two stunning waterfalls that cascade along the riverbed into a deep canyon. According to an old legend, First Nations people found the skeleton of a white man near the waterfall, thus giving the falls its name.

The park was established in 1940 to protect the old-growth Douglas fir forest ecosystem, as well as the area around the river and the waterfalls. You can enjoy spectacular views as you hike along park trails, especially from the two bridges that cross the river where it plunges down the narrow rock canyon toward the waters below. The lower falls end in a deep pool—an ideal swimming hole in the summer and a great place to view spawning salmon in the fall.
